Apartment subcontractor convicted of wage theft

The owner of a commercial painting company has become the first person to be criminally convicted of wage theft in Minnesota. Wage theft became a felony in the state in 2019. Frederick Leon Newell was convicted April 9 of wage theft and theft by swindle. “This wage-theft conviction is the first of its kind in Minnesota. It is an important step forward in our efforts to protect workers,” commented Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty. “This type of behavior will not be tolerated.

$8.5 million settlement reached in construction worker’s death

Part of the large settlement reflects the pain and emotional turmoil suffered before the worker’s death, a remedy available thanks to changes in the state’s wrongful death laws in the Omnibus Judiciary and Public Safety Bill enacted in 2023.
200,000 Honda Pilot and Passport SUVs Recalled for Fuel Leak Issue

Honda will recall more than 200,000 of its big SUVs, the Pilot and Passport, to correct an issue with the fuel filler assembly. The problem is said to be faulty installation that could allow the fuel filler neck tube and pipe to separate, potentially leaking fuel in the event of a crash. The issue affects 2023 and 2024 Passport and 2023 through 2025 Pilot SUVs, Honda said.
