IN BRIEFThe Minneapolis firm Goldenberg Lauricella obtained a $29 million medical malpractice verdict following a finding of negligence by a certified nurse midwife involving a baby in distress. The verdict, believed to be the largest in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, history, was announced last month in Hudson. The baby was born almost an hour after the standard of care required the certified nurse midwife to contact the OB/GYN.

Ojo has 20 days to answer the allegations. The Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility has announced it is seeking discipline of a West St. Paul attorney. Among several alleged rule violations, the OLPR petition filed Jan. 30 says Ayodele Ojo harassed laypersons on the other side of cases he was involved in.

Personal injury law firm SiebenCarey has announced that it has reached an $8.5 million settlement in the death of a construction worker who was crushed by a dump truck in downtown St. Paul in 2022. Part of the large settlement reflects the pain and emotional turmoil suffered before the worker’s death, a remedy available thanks to changes in the state’s wrongful death laws in the Omnibus Judiciary and Public Safety Bill enacted in 2023.

A Bemidji attorney who is currently suspended from the practice of law in Minnesota faces discipline for misconduct which allegedly occurred while suspended. Darrell G. Carter, who was suspended in 2023, and admonished three out of the five years preceding the suspension, has 20 days from Dec. 3 to answer the allegations. Carter faces multiple charges of unprofessional conduct. One count includes the unauthorized practice of law.

Robins Kaplan has announced that it has secured a total judgment of nearly $10.5 million against CRC Industries, the manufacturer of aerosol keyboard dusters that some people have used to get high. CRC Industries is responsible for the entire verdict and post-verdict amount, and a request for a new trial has been denied. “This was the first time a case focused on aerosol duster abuse went to trial,” said Tara Sutton, Robins Kaplan LLP National Mass Tort Group chair and co-lead attorney.
