You've probably started to see campaign yard signs popping up across your neighborhood or along the main streets on your morning drive to work or school. It's about time for Columbia voters to select representatives to the City Council and a mayor, as well as members for the Columbia School Board. The municipal election is April 8, and the Missourian has been covering these races already.

Judging by the amount of political mailers I have been receiving and the text messages I'm getting from parties and candidates alike, we're down to crunch time in this year's general election cycle. Columbia and Boone County voters will have a lot to consider on their Nov. 5 ballots: five constitutional amendments and a proposition, plus races for statewide offices and county seats. Laura Johnston is Opinion editor at the Missourian and an associate professor at the Missouri School of Journalism.
