MinnPost’s long-time Mental Health & Addiction columnist Andy Steiner has been named a HEAL Fellow by the Solutions Journalism Network. The fellowship is designed for “U.S. journalists reporting on, for and with young people who are facing mental health challenges and healing through innovative community responses.” Steiner is one of just 10 individuals selected for the the national program.

But despite this national trend, I’m thrilled to share that MinnPost is growing in 2025. We’ll be adding more talented reporters to our team who can pursue the stories that matter to Minnesota. Hurricane Helene brought extensive damage to East Tennessee and Western North Carolina this past September and was the deadliest storm in North Carolina’s state history. North Carolina will still need help from volunteers for quite a while, said Julie Vandel, Director of Development for Feed America First, located in Rutherford County. “It’s definitely going to be a long road ahead,” she said.
