The Unified Patent Court (UPC) is undoubtedly a success as a forum for the enforcement and revocation of European patents (EPs). The UPC Registry's statistics, for the first 18 months of the UPC being available to hear cases, show that the new court has gathered a significant amount of business. There were 239 infringement actions and 55 standalone revocation actions filed in that time.

The introduction of the European patent package involved the creation of a single court in which to hear European patent disputes (the Unified Patent Court (UPC)) and unitary patent right (UP), across most of the EU, and is the culmination of decades of work. Now the new system is in place, it brings with it fundamental changes to the way in which patents can be litigated and granted in Europe.

On April 10, the EPA imposed the first national limits on PFAS, mandating their reduction in drinking water to near zero levels. The agency followed this with an April 19 ruling that designates PFOS and PFOA, two of the most studied PFAS, as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), also known as the Superfund law.

Shrewsbury, 33, was born in Ripley, West Virginia, and raised on a farm in rural Monroe County. His grandfather was a union coal miner, but he grew up in a Republican family, a reflection of the state’s shift from blue to red over the past half century. Holley, who is also chairman of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Indians, a consortium of four Bands that includes the one at Battle Mountain, arrived at the work site. He says he waved down the contractor bulldozing the trench. The contractor stopped the machine, exited it, swore at Holley, made much use of the “f” word, repeatedly gave Holley “two seconds” to leave and compared him to “Mexicans at the border” stopping an honest man from doing his work.

Erik Hatlestad, 33,works on rural energy issues with the Minnesota nonprofit CURE (Clean Up the River Environment) as their Energy Democracy Program Director. Founded in 1992, CURE describes itself as a rural-focused environmental group “rooted in the movement for rural social justice.” The group’s 12 employees are scattered in small towns across the state.
