My boyfriend insisted on getting a big TV. His excuse was that I was away filming for five months, so he needed something to focus on. There’s also a PlayStation 4. I’ve always loved video games. On a beautiful summer’s evening, all the normal people are outside having pints, and I’ll spend six hours being chased by horrendous monsters. What have you been watching? I’ve been really enjoying the Apple TV+ series The Studio, where Seth Rogen plays a guy who’s promoted to head developer of a film studio.

But it took until 2022, when The Chelsea Detective first aired, for Scarborough to be cast in a lead role on screen. Scarborough was actually ready to cut back on television work, but the part of DI Max Arnold convinced him to change his mind. “I never expected to go down this road,” says the 57-year-old who is now promoting the third series of his detective drama. “Playing the lead isn’t a responsibility that I really enjoy.

She’s also starred in Black Mirror, the film Wicked Little Letters and as Stella in a stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire, for which she won an Olivier Award. How does it feel to be nominated for a BAFTA? We Are Lady Parts is a very special show and it changed my life. It was the first time I played a lead woman of colour on TV – but it’s not just me, it’s five women of colour leading the show, and that’s rare. I feel like TV is often catching up with real life.

She also recently played Amy Winehouse in the film Back to Black and appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag. How does it feel to be nominated? I found out the news on set while filming Industry, so it felt like a win for all of us. Getting a third series of the show was such a triumph. I’m currently filming series four and I’ll still be filming when the BAFTAs happen, so to take the win back to everyone would be really fun. It’s definitely validating.
