“People will die.”That’s how Nancy Hagans, the president of National Nurses United, the largest union of registered nurses in the U.S., summed up the impact of the Trump administration’s massive proposed cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The cuts, a part of President Donald Trump’s budget proposal bill, would lead an estimated 16 million people to lose health insurance by 2034, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

If there’s anything that Dr. Vinay Prasad, the controversial new appointee to lead the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, or CBER, a top office at the Food and Drug Administration, loves to do, it’s hurl an insult. Upon first glance, Prasad seems far more qualified than many other Trump appointees. He is a hematologist-oncologist and University of California at San Francisco professor who has amassed an unbelievable number of publications.

New York lawmakers and Gov. Kathy Hochul reached a deal on April 28 on the state’s $254 billion budget for fiscal year 2026. The budget—which could still change due to tens of billions in estimated lost federal funding—came after its deadline. Five years ago, the World Health Organization first declared the novel coronavirus a global pandemic. The announcement led to an unprecedented moment for our society: lockdown. Restaurants were shuttered, millions became unemployed, and millions more died from this unknown, terrible disease. New York City, where I live, was the first U.S. epicenter. To get to the doctor’s office he needs the assistance of a caregiver and at least one family member in order to pack up and drive his custom-designed wheelchair van, and to make sure he’s travelling with everything he needs: backup equipment, supplies, batteries, and medication.

So, the results of the big vaccine committee meeting? They just... aren't voting on recommendations for Covid-19 shots, according to @dr_kkjetelina's newsletter today. So RFK's "decree" stands, I guess? This is NO way to make health policy. https://t.co/fVt43G5IJE
