BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A bill is making its way through the legislature that would provide Alabama teachers with worker’s compensation. Right now, if a teacher is injured on the job, he or she oftentimes must use sick leave and paid time off. Senator Sam Givhan sponsors Senate Bill One. It passed unanimously in the Senate back in February. The House of Representatives also passed an amended version of the bill in the last week.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Driver distraction is a major cause of crashes. The National Distracted Driving Coalition estimates around a quarter of all deadly wrecks nationwide involve distracted driving, which is more than 12,000 deaths every year. Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) CEO Sandy Spavone said the latest numbers coming from 2023 show around 1,000 people died in car crashes in Alabama and about a quarter of them were caused by distraction.

To comply with time constraints, the Hoover City Council voted to reallocate $17 million in bond money from a proposed performing arts center (PAC) to capital projects, including the sewer system.

(WBRC) - The Hoover City Council voted Monday night to reallocate millions of dollars in bond money from a proposed performing arts center to capital needs and projects, including the sewer system. The conversation between the mayor, the city council, and Hoover residents lasted more than an hour and a half. Hoover received a $17 million bond about two years ago they dedicated to creating a performing arts center.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - A healthy 13-pound baby was born at Grandview Medical Center in Alabama on Tuesday morning. Paris Halo made her entrance into the world at 7:21 a.m. to mother Pamela Mann. According to Grandview Medical Center, baby Paris weighed in at 13 pounds, 4 ounces and measured 22 inches long. Paris is in the neonatal intensive care unit for some extra love and care while her mom is spending some time in the hospital, but the medical team both of doing great.
