CAN WE TALK a little bit about the tyranny of productivity? Listen, I work at REAL SIMPLE, so I know and love that feeling of finishing the to-do list, leaving it all on the field, and falling into a chair with a sense of Now I can do what I want because I’ve earned it.

DREAM JOB. I’ve never been one to use the phrase—it always struck me as kinda cloying, juvenile. I’ve loved my career (who knew an English major could even have one?!), and I’ve worked at some pretty awesome places with some pretty amazing people. But dream job? Not a thing. Then, three years ago, I landed mine. I love what I do—no, I mean I really love it. First and foremost because I get to work with the most brilliant team of creative minds in the media.

Here at REAL SIMPLE, we love advice from a multihyphenate woman about how she gets it all done. And while Brooke Shields (a CEO-actor-model-author-thinker-social media phenom-mom-friend-wife) could speak endlessly to that, she’s here to talk about aging. Her new book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, just dropped, and with it her witty, insightful thoughts on entering “this next third” of her life. The gist: None of us are really allowed to get old.

I RECENTLY HIT a big milestone birthday, and it’s weird and so cool. I don’t feel old (though my knees may disagree), and I don’t miss any other decade. Honestly. Maybe it’s because as you get older you don’t remember things so well, but I look back at my 20s as a puddle of insecurity (about myself, my job, my boyfriends). My 30s were kind of confusing too. The 40s for me were about the kids, possibly to an unhealthy, self-denying degree. Now I’m 50 and feel…kind of great?
