For 14-year-old Giuliana Pettinato, there’s nothing better than a game of cornhole at the Holmdel Swim Club on a hot summer day. During the summer of 2023 though, something stuck out to her. “I noticed there was only one cornhole set [at the pool club],” Pettinato said. A longtime member of Girl Scout Troop 60239, Pettinato had always coveted the prestigious Girl Scout Silver Award, one of the highest-ranking awards in Girl Scouting.

Last year, if you told former Colts Neck resident Alec Molloy that he would be gearing up for the 2023 New York City Marathon on Oct. 5, he would’ve had trouble believing you. “I would have laughed at myself for even thinking about a marathon one year ago,” he said. An avid athlete, Molloy was a member of Colts Neck High School’s baseball and soccer teams, yet running was never on his radar.
