Dear Madilyn and Pierson,Every year, Earth Day comes around with its reminders to reduce, reuse, recycle… to plant trees, pick up litter, protect the oceans. Yes, all of that is so very important. However, this year, I’ve found myself thinking less about the what and more about the why. You two are my why. I look at your bright eyes as you marvel at a butterfly landing on a flower, or chase waves with sandy toes and joyful giggles.

Spring is in the air! Okay, maybe that’s just the pollen count skyrocketing. Either way, the days are getting warmer, the beach days are becoming more frequent, and the flip-flops are back in business. It’s like the world is waking up from a long nap, stretching its arms, and shaking off the chill. Does anyone else feel like they should be throwing confetti and shouting, “Happy New Year!?” Because that’s basically what the beginning of spring feels like here in Florida.

Let the games begin! It’s that time of year again when we “spring forward,” lose an hour of sleep, and collectively wonder why we’re doing this to ourselves. If you’ve ever spent the first Monday of daylight saving time clutching your coffee like it’s a life raft, you’re not alone. The shift may only be 60 minutes, but somehow, it manages to throw off the entire household routine, especially when you have little ones who refuse to acknowledge that time is a thing we follow.

Congratulations, Florida moms! You’ve almost survived another “winter”!(Yes, I’m using air quotes.)It’s already February, which means the finish line is in sight. If you’re like me, you’d prefer winter to end as soon as possible, so let’s go with the meteorological definition: Winter is December, January, and February. That means we’re almost done! The astronomical calendar drags it out until March 20, but we don’t have time for that nonsense.

Oh, it’s been such a glorious day with my babies. Yes, I still call them babies, even though I have a full-blown 2-year-old toddler and a newly 4-year-old (preschooler? How did we get here?). I’m in denial. I digress. Today has been lovely. We played on the new tree swing Santa brought, strolled around the block, colored pictures, and tinkered with kinetic sand. It felt like one of those picture-perfect days. That is, until naptime brought a big ol’ wrench into all of it.

🌎 Wrote something special for Earth Day — a love letter 💌 to my babies and the beautiful world I hope they inherit. 🌱 ❓ It’s inspired by the questions they ask, the flowers they water, and the tiny turtle that comes everywhere with us. 🐢 🔗: https://t.co/69T8YKfid1
