The setting is usually contemporary, with social dynamics that readers recognise. It doesn’t mean that the action has to be mundane. There can be romance or mystery or adventure within realistic fiction. The key is that the story is easy to relate to. Characters encounter problems that we — the readers — might be grappling with ourselves, and the choices those characters make can help us reflect on our own lives.

Applications to become a mentor in Imperial’s Reverse Mentoring Programme are now open. Reverse Mentoring is when a senior leader is mentored by a more junior colleague. The programme gives the mentor a glimpse into how Imperial is run at a senior level, while providing the senior leader being mentored a different perspective of working life at the university, particularly in terms of diversity and inclusion.

Every year Imperial celebrates Women at Imperial Week on the same week as International Women’s Day. The Business School’s Associate Provost, Leila Guerra, wrote an article for Forbes outlining the role business schools can play to address gender inequality in business. She also spoke to QS Top MBA about how business schools are promoting gender diversity.
