The landscape of American club soccer is at an interesting point in time. The “SoccerWarz” are in full effect. The US Open Cup just got a huge cash infusion, despite not all MLS teams participating. Rumors are flying around about MLS changing their schedule to reflect the European calendar. The Club World Cup is set to be played in the US this summer and will feature two American teams (Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders).

Following a disastrous second half to their 2023-2024 season, the Memphis Tigers enjoyed a very good rebound season in 2024-2025. They won the most games they’ve won in a season since Josh Pastner went 31-5 in 2012-2013. Some of this year’s wins include two-time defending national champion UConn, a Michigan State team that went to the Elite Eight, and a top-20 Ole Miss team that went to the Sweet Sixteen.

One of the unique challenges a soccer country the geographic size of the United States faces is trying to figure out where to play all the home games. There are 50 states spread out over thousands of miles and only so many games to go around. Many other countries around the world, especially within CONCACAF, are small enough in area that they are limited in the number of cities and venues they have available to host games. This shouldn’t be a problem in a country the size of the United States.

The honeymoon phase for Mauricio Pochettino is officially over. Despite winning five of his first six games, the tide turned against the new USMNT boss after Thursday’s loss to Panama in the Nations League semi-finals. It was the fourth time the US has lost to Panama in six games after having only lost to them once ever prior to 2021. In fact, the US has now lost three straight tournament games to Panama: 2023 Gold Cup semi-final, 2024 Copa America group stage, and 2025 Nations League semi-final.

My man thinks Philadelphia is the Midwest. We're cooked

@ldock93 @Trop_cfc @USMNT @GoldCup That's barely the East coast. Fringe South and Midwest

RT @901SoccerPod: Tickets for the USMNT game right up the road in Nashville on sale now https://t.co/OzgpUs6B9X

Well I guess I only had one right for the group stage

I'll bet dollars to donuts the USMNT is playing two of their group stage games in Austin and St. Louis But remember, US Soccer has no control or say over where they play CONCACAF games......
