Image by Ankit SinghOur InnerSelf welcomes your inner Self. Comment from Marie:One thing we all have in common is we all have, or at least had, a mother... thus we also had ancestors. We have a lineage from which we descend. This means we have certain traits we have inherited (skin color, eye color, build, etc.) as well as some personality traits and behaviors that we also have either acquired genetically or through modeled behavior.

Image by MAMADOU TRAORE Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self. As the featured articles came together for this week, one a day, I (Marie) was interested to see that two of the 7 featured articles quoted the Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Image by Max from PixabayDid we do everything our parents always said to do, or do we always do what our partners tell us now to do? Do we automatically do what we’re told by the government or others in positions of authority, like a job supervisor? If we automatically accept what they tell us, do we start to believe and take their belief systems in as our own? Will this only take us farther away from knowing what we believe and who we truly are?

Image by Dmitriy from PixabayLabels are not only misleading, but they can also define us in a way that is not beneficial for us to be defined. If someone asks me about another person they’ve never met and I characterize the person as strange or as someone who doesn’t conform to society’s norms, or even having an unusual appearance, this portrayal would be interpreted by a hundred people in a hundred different ways according to their unique belief systems. So, everything becomes relative.
