CF Montréal are headed to the Canadian Championship quarter-finals, after they defeated bitter rivals Toronto FC in a penalty shootout on Wednesday night at BMO Field, booking their ticket to the next round thanks to a pair of late equalizers and two outstanding penalty saves from Jonathan Sirois in the shootout. Montréal will now await their opponent, which will be either Forge FC or the Halifax Wanderers, as they vie to win a sixth Voyageurs' Cup.

The preliminary round of the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship wrapped up on Wednesday night, with Forge FC and Valour FC winning their respective matches and moving on to the quarter-finals. The Vancouver Whitecaps received a bye to the quarters as the reigning winners of the competition, and over the past two weeks seven other clubs have booked their tickets to the final eight -- Atlético Ottawa, Cavalry FC, CF Montréal, Forge FC, Valour FC, Vancouver FC, York United FC.

As the European season reaches its final month, Canadians across the globe are looking to make their final case as far as club form goes to be included in summer competition for the respective national teams. This week, Dayne St. Clair continued to cement his spot as the men’s national team’s number one, Jayden Nelson is making a strong case to get back into the squad this summer, and on the women’s side, Jordyn Huitema is back healthy and in top form.

The preliminary round of the 2025 Canadian Championship is now over, and we know which seven teams will join the three-time defending champions, the Vancouver Whitecaps, in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately for those who follow this tournament for upsets, of which there have been quite a few over the past couple of years, this preliminary round didn’t deliver in that regard, but there were still some intriguing results to note.

For the first time in club history, the Vancouver Whitecaps will play in a continental final, as they defeated Inter Miami 3-1 (5-1 on aggregate) in the second leg of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup semi-finals at Chase Field on Wednesday. Despite facing off against an Inter Miami side favoured to not just win this tie, but win this entire tournament, too, it’d be the Whitecaps who’d steal the show, as they picked up two big victories across both legs.
