A love for Flour Bakery and running led to the sweetest half marathon in the Boston area — and you probably haven’t heard of it. Now in its second official year, runners of the will hit the pavement of Cambridge and Boston on Dec. 15 to connect the dots between Flour’s nine bakeries. Finishers will get a box of pastries. “It’s not a race,” said Rachel Frenkil, who worked with Flour Bakery to make the 13.1-mile fun run an official event after coordinating multiple unofficial runs starting in 2020.

When the temperature is warm, for runners, it’s warmer — maybe even hot. Humidity and sun exposure can add more fuel to the heat, too. Here’s how to stay safe and avoid overheating. The best thing you can do to prepare to run on a warm day is stay hydrated. Drink water. Drink electrolytes. Don’t drink alcohol. If it’s very hot outside, it’s not the time to go all out and set a personal best. Instead, slow down. Your body works harder when it’s hot out.

And dressing too warm for a run in the cold can be an issue, too. So what do you wear? Here’s a guide for how to dress for running when it’s cold. The temperatures are cool but wind or lots of sun can make it feel a little cooler or warmer than they actually are. For overcast skies and a breeze, grab a lightweight long sleeve technical shirt.
