    Travelers flying out of Chattanooga and airports nationwide will soon need more than just a standard driver’s license to board a flight. Beginning May 7, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will enforce the federal REAL ID requirement at airport security checkpoints. That means adults 18 and older will need to present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, a passport or a military ID to fly domestically.

    A local nonprofit is making a big impact by delivering beds to children who would otherwise be sleeping on the floor. The Chattanooga chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national organization with more than 300 chapters, builds and delivers beds free of charge to children in need. Since its launch in 2019, the Chattanooga chapter has provided more than 5,000 beds to families across the region.

    Some of our neighbors continue to face financial hardship, the Chattanooga Free Store is stepping up to ease their burden — one donated item at a time. The store began as a pop-up in Highland Park in 2021, and has since found a permanent home on Dodson Avenue. Its goal is simple: Offer essential items to anyone in need, entirely free of charge. “We have clothes, we do hygiene items,” said Liz Hutcherson, manager of the Chattanooga Free Store.
