My periodic fascination with video games spans decades, dating back to the mid-1970s release of Pong, which I first encountered at a friend’s house after school one momentous day. Sporadic visits to Aladdin’s Castle arcade at Tyrone Mall followed, usually after watching a movie at the old Tyrone Square 6 theater. Alas, there would be no gaming console in the Zumpe household during my teenage years — which probably helped keep my grade point average slightly above the level of academic mediocrity.
