    DALLAS — Today, in 2004, Hong Kong-based low-cost carrier HK Express (UO) was founded. UO is owned by Cathay Pacific Airways (CX). Cambodia, China, Japan, South Korea, the Northern Mariana Islands, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam are among the destinations served by the airline. The airline's main hub is at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), and its fleet is comprised entirely of Airbus A320 family aircraft. Macau casino billionaire Stanley Ho founded the airline.

    DALLAS — Today, in 1970, the charter arm of British European Airways (BEA), BEA Airtours (KT), took its maiden flight. The inaugural service, operated by a de Havilland Comet 4B (G-ARJL), departed London Gatwick (LGW) bound for Palma (PMI). Flight KT243 was under the command of Captain Peter McKeown, assisted by First Officers Peter Jarvis and Geoffrey Evans. Onboard were 25 fare-paying passengers. Staff from BEA Airtours, BEA, and Sunair Holidays took up the remaining seats.

    DALLAS — Today, in 1923, the Sikorsky Aero Engineering Corporation was founded by the Kyiev-born Ukrainian aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky following his move to the United States in 1919. After receiving financial backing from several Russian expatriate supporters, the company was able to rent hangar space at Roosevelt Field in New York. Prototype PlaneSikorsky began building his first aircraft, the Sikorsky S-29-A, a twin-engine sesquiplane airliner. The type was first flown in 1924.

    DALLAS - Today, in 2012, Continental Airlines (CO) was finally merged into United Airlines (UA), the former ceasing brand operations. The combined companies created the largest airline globally based on the total number of passenger miles flown, valued at US$3.2bn. The new carrier promised 'an unparalleled global network.' It would operate from eight major hubs, offering 5,500 daily flights to almost 400 destinations.
