Penn State’s Katie Schumacher-Cawley was a unanimous choice as the national coach of the year as we announce our 2024 VolleyballMag All-Americans, player of the year and coach of the year. Pittsburgh right side Olivia Babcock is the national player of the year. Nebraska llbero Lexi Rodriguez and Penn State outside hitter Jess Mruzik also got first-place votes. Also getting votes for second or third were Creighton’s Kendra Wait, Florida’s Kennedy Martin and Wisconsin’s Sarah Franklin.

What a fun year it’s been and what a fun 2024 NCAA volleyball season we had doing our 900 Square Feet weekly Zooms. This week, ESPN and Big Ten TV analyst Emily Ehman and VolleyballMag editor Lee Feinswog put a bow on the season, which culminated Sunday in Louisville as Penn State defeated Louisville for the NCAA title.

The day after the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship provided us with plenty of news and notes for this final edition of Volleyball Today. Purdue star outside hitter Eva Hudson has picked her new team, Michigan State and Cincinnati hired new coaches, the AVCA has a final poll, and LOVB announced the last of its six standouts headed to the new league. We’ve also got our last international pro women’s report of the year.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Katie Schumacher-Cawley, the reluctant inspiration and one hell of a coach, is now the only member of the most exclusive club in NCAA Division I women’s volleyball. She has won national championships as a player and a coach. The first came in 1999 when Penn State defeated Stanford for the school’s first title.
