SINGAPORE - China’s BYD was the best-selling car brand in Singapore in 2024, with 6,191 units registered, beating out Japan’s Toyota and Germany’s BMW. This is the first time a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brand has topped the list here. Based on statistics from the Land Transport Authority published on Jan 17, BYD’s sales accounted for 14.4 per cent of all new car registrations in 2024.

SINGAPORE – Sea lions are predators who feed on more than 50 species of fish, squid and the like. They have huge appetites, eating up to 8 per cent of their weight daily. Similar things can be said about the Sealion 7, the latest electric vehicle (EV) from BYD. Just replace “fish and squid” with “other cars”. BYD started promoting the mid-sized electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) in December 2024 before its official debut in January.

Rolls-Royce Ghost makes Asia-Pacific debutAround 80 guests were invited to a one-day presentation of the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II at Air CCCC restaurant in Dempsey Road on Jan 15. Singapore is the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to be presented with the updated V12 limousine. The most obvious differences – from the earlier version that was launched in 2020 – are the slim daytime running light graphic on the headlight and a front grille that has fewer vertical vents.

SINGAPORE - There will be 1,299 more certificates of entitlement (COEs) available for tender in the February to April period than in the preceding three months, marking an increase of 8.2 per cent. In all, there will be 17,133 certificates available for bidding, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Jan 16.
