The Wales Transport Strategy published in 2021 putmodal shift at the heart of our policies. For the first time, we’ve set atarget on increasing the number of trips made by sustainable modes of transportfrom 32% to 45% by 2040. Grand declarations are important to signal system change. However, as we've seen in the past, transport strategies often say all theright things in the narrative but the delivery mechanisms are programmed todeliver business-as-usual.

A note to members of the Llanelli constituency Labour Party There has been a big disagreement within Welsh Labour. There has not been a ‘witch-hunt’ against Vaughan Gething, but there has been a genuine conflict of values. Now there is an appetite to quickly move on, but I think there’s a real danger that in shutting down discussion we will neither understand nor learn the lessons of what has happened.

Speech in Senedd on May 1st 2024 Llywydd, I’ve been struggling to process my feelings about the issues before us today. And this is a speech I would rather have avoided. Immediately on news of the donation coming out I said I thought it was unjustifiable and wrong. That’s a matter of record, and I have not changed my view.

Wales has become the first country in the UK to roll out a default 20mph speed limit for residential roads. The scheme begins on Sunday and most roads in Wales that are currently 30mph have become 20mph although councils have discretion to impose exemptions. The Welsh Government has said that cutting the limit from 30mph to 20mph will protect lives and save the NHS in Wales £92 million a year.
