Last year, chief justices and senior national judges from more than a dozen African countries attended a conference in Switzerland to learn about ways to expedite the civil cases clogging their courts. The event was part of a decade-long partnership with Pepperdine University, a Christian school in California that has partnered with African judiciaries to promote access to justice. You can read more about that effort in the story, “Missionaries of justice,” by WORLD’s Jenny Rough in this issue.

The Jesus Movement has a complex history, but for many, including WORLD’s Mary Jackson, it birthed a spiritual legacy. Both her parents and her in-laws came to Christ thanks to the fervor of the so-called Jesus Freaks. You can read more about the movement and its mixed legacy in Mary’s story, “Jesus People,” in this issue. I asked her to share some of her own family’s experience. How did your parents come to know Jesus?

Less than two months after Rachel Coyle attended the 2024 WJI mid-career course, her mom asked her to pray for a neighbor who’d fallen victim to a financially debilitating scam. Rachel instantly knew she’d stumbled across an important story. Although still in shock over her loss, Connie Grundmann agreed to share what happened to her, in hopes it might save others from becoming victims.

The “just say no” approach to illegal drugs is passé. The new strategy for overcoming addiction involves more drugs (albeit legal) and a concession to lifelong treatment. You can read more about it in “Freedom seekers,” by Addie Offereins and Grace Snell in this issue. Some Christian rehab centers have adopted this new approach, but many are sticking with what the industry calls an “abstinence-based” strategy. I asked Addie how those centers are faring now that their model is no longer favored.

Election years are both exhausting and exhilarating for a political reporter. WORLD’s Carolina Lumetta has crisscrossed the country to attend dozens of rallies since January. She also covered three party conventions over the summer. I asked her to share a bit of what she witnessed. The Democratic National Convention (DNC) invited social media content creators to its meeting in Chicago. How did they approach the event differently than traditional news media?

Much wisdom from both @jcderrick1 and @SophiaLeeHyun on today's @TWERadio: "I have more in common with my political opposite who is a believer in Jesus than I do my God-less neighbor who may happen to share my political ideology." https://t.co/fsql7udZyI https://t.co/qtWZ3UieaF

This makes me want to dance (and maybe sing a little) with abandon! After I've had a bit more coffee, that is. @TrevinWax joins @megbasham and @NickEicher on @TWERadio to talk about the new #KanyeWest album #JesusIsKing https://t.co/z4feguH0ey https://t.co/4qkTeJNNXY
