A 54-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting a woman May 21 in the Tantalus area for her refusal to have sex with him. John Harold Garside was arraigned on June 5 before Circuit Judge Thomas Haia via video teleconferencing from the Oahu Community Correctional Center, and also pleaded not guilty to three firearm charges, in addition to the attempted murder. He scheduled Garside for trial Aug. 4 before Judge Catherine Remigio.

An Oahu grand jury indicted a 22-year-old man Friday for allegedly shooting at another vehicle during a road rage incident Monday in Waikiki. Ezra Madali was indicted for first-degree reckless endangering, first-degree terroristic threatening and place to keep a pistol or revolver. According to the initial complaint, his action placed a man and /or a woman in danger of death or serious bodily injury.

Trial for the man charged with negligent homicide in the Feb. 15, 2023, hit-and-run that killed 16-year-old Sara Yara and injured her schoolmate, has been postponed for another 10 weeks. Circuit Judge Trish Morikawa granted the motion Thursday and ordered the trial week for Mitchel Miya shiro to be continued to Sept. 8 from July 7. The case of Miyashiro, who had 164 prior traffic citations, had incensed the public because he had never been jailed for any of his previous driving offenses.
