The transcript was attached to a motion filed in February to dismiss the murder charge filed by Lehua Kalua, Isabella’s adoptive mother, and oral arguments were scheduled to be heard Monday.

Police arrested a 15-year-old girl this morning for allegedly assaulting her 73-year-old foster mother in Wahiawa. Police said the girl and the woman were arguing at about 6 :30 a.m. when the argument escalated. The teen allegedly pushed the foster mother, which caused her to fall and feel pain, police said. Police located the girl, and she was identified and arrested at 7 a.m. without incident on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Oahu residents turned in roughly 367 firearms of all types today in a gun buyback program at the Aloha Stadium, the Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) announced in a news release this afternoon. The guns were exchanged for $37,900 in Foodland gift cards contributed by the DLE. The 2024 Legislature appropriated the funding for Saturday’s event. The ongoing amnesty program is part of the efforts of Gov. Josh Green’s administration to keep Hawaii residents safe from gun violence.

A Circuit Court judge has ordered the supervised release of Oscar Cardona, who was convicted in 2022 of second-degree murder in the June 1, 2021, stabbing death of a visitor in Waikiki. Cardona will live with his mother in her one-bedroom Waikiki condo while he awaits a new trial. The Hawaii Supreme Court overturned the December 2022 conviction and life sentence with the possibility of parole, finding prosecutorial misconduct, which violated Cardona’s right to a fair trial.
