The Myrtles is having a summer Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday in June and July. The East Feliciana Council on Aging invites the community to its annual picnic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 13, at the Jackson Senior Center, 3699 La. 10, Jackson. This year’s event will feature a pirate theme with live entertainment, door prizes and lunch. Help with school window coverings soughtThe Zachary Community School District School Resource Officers are seeking help for a big project. They hope to make 95 covers for classroom windows in Copper Mill Elementary. A news release said window covers are an important tool to keep students and educators safe on campus. They conceal classroom occupants and allow educators to verify who may be outside their door prior to allowing entry into their classroom.

Clinton water tower dismantled

Social media was abuzz with photos and the news that the Clinton water tower was being dismantled May 20. Mayor Mark Kemp says the longtime landmark next to First Baptist Church dated to 1931 had become dangerous. It was leaking. It “probably could have been saved a few years ago,” but it was now in a condition where there were worries it could fall on First Baptist or across the road, the mayor said. “It was stepping up to the plate after the fact,” Kemp said.

May is Hurricane Preparedness Month and it's time to get ready before a hurricane enters the Gulf. Be sure to verify you have appropriate supplies and that your family knows what to do in an emergency. The Feliciana Artist Group in conjunction with the Feliciana Wildflower Festival will hold the Largest Art Show in the Felicianas under one roof from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7. It will be in the Clinton United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at the corner of St. Helena Street and Old South Drive.
