Elijah Kennedy is making history at Olathe West High School.The senior standout on the Owls' esports team has earned this week's KMBC Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week honor. Kennedy holds an impressive 24-1 record this season in Super Smash Bros. and recently won the Olathe West Esports Invitational.Kennedy is the first student in Olathe Public Schools to be recruited by a college and awarded a scholarship specifically for esports. He will attend Baker University in the fall.

TONIGHT, SCHOLAR ATHLETE IS NOT ONLY PASSIONATE ABOUT SPORTS, HE SHARES HIS PASSION WITH THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST. JUDSON MCINTOSH HAS BEEN SERVING UP WINS FOR THE BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH TENNIS TEAM FOR YEARS. THIS LAST YEAR I WENT IN SINGLES AND GOT EIGHTH. TENNIS WAS A SPORT FOR HOURS A DAY DURING THE SUMMER. JUST EVERY ALL DAYS OF THE WEEK.

Congratulations to Snowden Connor of Pembroke Hill, this week’s KMBC Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week.The junior lacrosse standout has scored 31 goals and recorded 6 assists this season for the Raiders, including an 8-goal performance last week against Notre Dame de Sion.Connor has been recognized as a USA Lacrosse All-American. While she has not yet chosen where she’ll attend college, she plans to continue playing lacrosse at the next level.

There’s no debate about the latest recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award: Shawnee Mission East senior Lucy Pace is bringing energy, leadership and academic excellence to the spotlight. Pace has been a cheerleader for the Lancers for four years and currently serves as a varsity captain. "I'm a varsity captain, which is very, very special to me," she said. Pace is also an award-winning cheerleader known for her enthusiasm.
