Coach Kyle Crookes faced a personal dilemma when the University of Central Missouri was set to play for the NCAA Division II baseball regional championship last Saturday night, at the same time as his daughter Kennedy’s high school graduation. “If we win, we play tomorrow night at 6, and then the worry set in,” Crookes said. Kennedy’s mother, Delayna Crookes, said she had prepared herself for the situation. “It’s OK. It’s not his fault,” she said.

Blue Valley North’s Delia Gregory has been named the KMBC 9 and Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week.The senior track star has claimed multiple Class 6A state titles in the 200 meters, 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay, setting state and school records in the process.Gregory is expected to contend for more championships this spring before continuing her academic and athletic career at Princeton University.She was honored this week for her achievements on and off the track.

The World Cup is fast approaching, and not many in Kansas City know more about it than Matt Besler. Besler, a former Sporting KC star and Kansas City native, played for the U.S. men’s national team in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Besler has since hung up his cleats, trading them in for a coaching clipboard. “I love it. I really do,” Besler said. “I’m still new to it, so I’m learning as I go.” His team? A group of fearless 7- and 8-year-old girls.
