BEFORE racing at the weekend, there was every chance that Juddmonte might have welcomed three Group 1 winners, and all in races sponsored by Tattersalls where they are major vendors, and buyers of stock on occasions. According to the Tattersalls website, since 1998 they have sold over 2,900 lots for more than 110,000,000gns, while since 2006 their selective buying has seen them sign for 46 lots costing almost 22,000,000gns.

JAMES’S Delight returned to the county of his birth last Saturday to contest the €120,000 Group 2 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh. This was the last time the race was run with Russell Ferris in charge at the sponsors, and he will leave later this summer when Sharon O’Regan ascends into the hot seat at the renowned firm. I wish them both well.

THURSDAY'S Tattersalls Ireland May Sale of point-to-pointers and horses-in-training resulted in a clearance rate of 73%, a respectable level, considering the median price was €30,000. This was only the second year of this sale and the catalogue, stretching to 109 horses, was far bigger than last year. British-based buyers such as Noel Fehily and David Crosse, A.J. O'Neill, Tom Malone, Dan Astbury and Sandy Thompson and Lucinda Russell played very important roles in boosting trade.
