ATLANTA — An Atlanta breakfast spot is shutting down after more than 30 years on Ponce De Leon Ave. next month. Java Jive, which is located across from the Clermont Hotel, has been a breakfast staple in northeast Atlanta since 1994. “Almost 31 years ago, we were getting ready to open Java Jive with a sign that said ‘Ready to Pour in 94,’” the restaurant wrote in an Instagram post.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves has been named MLB’s Comeback Player of the Year. Sale claimed the Triple Crown pitching title by leading the majors with 18 wins and a 2.38 ERA plus an NL-best 225 strikeouts. He also had a perfect fielding percentage during the 2024 season to win a Gold Glove. Sale was the team’s most consistent pitcher in 2024 after coming over from the Boston Red Sox in a trade last fall.

ATLANTA — The baby sloth at Zoo Atlanta now has a name. On August 9, a new baby sloth was born to Cocoa and Nutella at the zoo. On Tuesday, the Zoo announced the sloth would be named “Rolo.”The name was selected after a several-week naming campaign which included suggestions from the public. The zoo said nearly 2,000 names were submitted by the public from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1. Ultimately, the zoo decided on Rolo so it could continue with the theme of being named after sweets, like his parents.
SweetWater 420 Fest releases lineup for 2025 event

ATLANTA — SweetWater 420 Fest has announced its lineup for the 2025 version of the event. Artists on the lineup include Cypress Hill, Marcus King and the Revivalists, among others. The festival will be held next year at Pullman Yards from April 18-20. ESPN’s College GameDay coming to Athens for Georgia vs Tennessee

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia will host ESPN’s ‘College Gameday’ show ahead of an important matchup against the University of Tennessee on Saturday. The show, hosted by Rece Davis, features Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban and Lee Corso, will be live from Myers Quad. Saturday will mark the 10th time the show will make a stop in Athens, with the most recent stop last year.
