Nigerians have been reacting as the chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, appointed 130 Special Assistants. This is the second time in 6 months he would appoint over 100 SAs. This follows an interview in which FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated that the crisis in the state began after Governor Siminalayi Fubara plotted a coup that failed. โHe plotted a coup to remove the speaker of the State House of Assembly and the thing boomeranged against him,โ Wike said. According to the Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, the Federal High Court lacks the jurisdiction to intervene in matters concerning the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info's Morning Crossfire, Johnson described any Federal High Court rulings on RSIEC as an "academic exercise" and reiterated that the election scheduled for Saturday will proceed as planned.
