By Anika DandekarOn May 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a tax and spending bill, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBB), containing the bulk of President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda. The megabill extends and expands Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, including for high-income households and corporations. It also temporarily removes taxes on tips and overtime pay, and increases the Child Tax Credit for most middle-class families, while increasing border and military spending.

The Supreme Court recently decided to take up a case challenging the constitutionality of Colorado’s ban on “conversion therapy.” According to The Trevor Project, conversion therapy is a term “used to encompass a wide range of efforts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.” For example, these practices might attempt to change a young person from being gay to being straight, or to no longer identify as transgender.

These price hikes could have an especially harsh impact on Social Security beneficiaries.
