US pricing for Sony's 2025 TV range has been revealed, and there's a shocking twist that will rattle prospective customers in the States. The company revealed its 2025 TV range, which includes the Bravia 8 II QD-OLED, Bravia 5 Mini LED, and Bravia 3 LCD, last week. The big news is that the Bravia 8 II was not a replacement for the Award-winning Bravia 8 OLED TV, but a step-up model that replaces the exceptional A95L.

Sony has reportedly confirmed that its sole 8K TV, the Z9K, will only remain in its lineup while stocks last, meaning that once it's gone, it's gone. Originally launched in 2022 – the same year as the aging A90K OLED TV – the Z9K has been a permanent fixture in Sony's TV lineup since. Unlike Samsung, which has historically offered multiple 8K models in its roster, which are updated and replaced annually, Sony's three-year-old model has not been succeeded in Sony's proceeding TV ranges.

HDMI has been the universal standard for connecting TV, AV and home cinema equipment for quite some time, after it made its debut in 2002. Now, 23 years later, there is a rival on the scene – better late than never, we suppose. General Purpose Media Interface, or GPMI as it is less formally known, is a sternly titled new standard that comes in two flavours – Type-C and Type-B – both of which are set to surpass the current HDMI 2.1 standard in terms of claimed bandwidth.
