Dr Anne Cotton, head of King’s College School in Wimbledon, has been announced as the new HMC chair for the 2026-27 academic year. Dr Cotton will follow in the footsteps of Jaideep Barot, the current chair of the leading independent schools group, and the 2025-26 chair, Philip Britton. She will join the HMC board as chair elect in September 2025. Dr Cotton has had an extensive career in education and is the first woman to lead King’s College School on a permanent basis.

As I walked through Clapham Junction with my family the other weekend I reflected on my new role as a senior leader and the journey I have taken in terms of my career path so far. I couldn’t help but smile at the revellers in the pubs and restaurants as they cheered on their respective nations in the Rugby Six Nations championship. Exuberant first pumping and the clanging of glasses could be heard down every street, as tries were scored and penalty conversions were secured.

Max Anstie's been cleared of serious injury, after he crashed out of moto one at the 2024 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. There was initial concern about his neck, after he crawled onto the side of the track, but scans confirmed that he was just battered and bruised. '29' did not compete in moto two, as a precaution. Team Great Britain did well to take 12th in the final classification, despite the fact that the nation had to account for Anstie's 40th in that first moto.

Conrad Mewse of Team Great Britain was a revelation at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations â he overcame some personal demons and performed in a terrific fashion on home soil. Mewse stormed to fourth in the qualification heat on Saturday, then backed that up with 6-19 scores in his motos on Sunday. Compare that to his 25-23 scores at last season's event, in what was a weaker field, and it is quite a step.
