There are sonic snapshots of his career to date peppered throughout, allowing the listener to bask in those warm memories, but there's never a sense that this is a static exercise in nostalgia.

Rising rapper psweatpants has the unenviable job of rousing the shrinking violets that make up the audience tonight, a task he more or less accomplishes despite the repetitive stage banter and a bit of lingering sickness. London-born and Glasgow-based, his foundation is the trad-grime of two decades ago, which is surprisingly refreshing when considering the current state of UK rap, but there’s top-class variety in the beats and samples that keep things engaging throughout.

But as she starts to loop her playing and layer in beats (heavy on the bass), her arrangements grow in intensity and intricacy. For a few songs she's joined by YUIS on flute, a perfectly complementary pairing, especially on songs like memento mori. Good thing she managed to recover her harp after leaving it on the train over from Edinburgh...

Kevin McGachy (Dewey Lester – his psych-country alter ego) and Craig McNally (The 6:03 – a train???) are kindred spirits with a shared love of sun-dappled nostalgia and toe-tapping melodies. This debut collaboration is pitched as a love letter from one West Coast to another (Scotland to the USA) and despite the ostensible setting of Summer ’72, the naively optimistic and psychedelic ’60s are a more apt touchstone.

Despite the incredibly dark stage lighting, it seems like Cloth are finally peeking eager heads into the light with their third album, Pink Silence. Although Paul Swinton quips that he enjoys the anonymity it affords, there’s a sense through new singles ‘Polaroid’ and ‘Golden’ that the Glasgow twins are aiming for a more upbeat, almost jaunty sound. This musical progression feels natural and doesn’t detract from the moody textures they’ve made their name on.

The wildly uncategorisable Modern Woman are up first tonight, taking the loud/quiet dichotomy to extreme new places in service of keeping the surprisingly full room on its toes. It's pin-drop quiet during singer Sophie Harris's frequent a capella monologues, and the noise made during the extended freakouts is far too abrasive for anything less than unreserved attention. Between these moments there's time for a one-man cowbell conga and witchy ballads reminiscent of Sharon Van Etten.
