Those familiar with Geoff Dyer’s idiosyncratic, stimulating style of writing will know that he has turned his hand to myriad subjects - photography, the Tarkovsky film Stalker, the First World War, John Berger, living on the aircraft carrier the George HW Bush, writing about a subject he knows little (Dyer has said that he enjoys this since he learns about the subject while he is writing, and I believe he gave the example of his book on jazz), not writing about a subject he knows well (D.H....

I thought that there was nothing more annoying than ‘myself’ing where ‘me’ would do. I have had my eyes opened. There is something worse. It’s ‘ourselves’ing. So all the illiteracy and pomp of ‘myself’ing but added royal ‘we’ing, to add regal status and disperse responsibility. https://t.co/A16d2AcRkS
