On March 28th, we posted on Facebook asking Canadian cottagers who have a cottage in the U.S., and vice-versa, about their thoughts on the recent tensions and tariffs between our two countries. Are these affecting your cottaging plans for the upcoming summer? Are you concerned about crossing the border? We received more than 200 likes and 1,000 comments! In true Canadian fashion, almost all of the comments were respectful and civil.

Seals have been spotted all over Atlantic Canada wearing what appears to be little yellow hats, according to several eyewitness accounts. But it isn’t for fashion—it’s for science. A joint research program between the Université de Sherbrooke and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) aims to better understand the habits and behaviours of harbour seal pups in the Maritimes. The little “hats” are actually markers part of this project.

There’s at least one person who looks forward to the arrival of cold and snow every winter. Robert Aitkin, a retired city gardener and local neighbourhood good-guy from Waterloo, Ont., is the mastermind behind Iceopolis, an expansive ice sculpture garden located in his backyard. Robert went viral on Facebook in January for posting photos and videos of his array of ice creations.
