Just before the Madison city council convened Tuesday night to discuss the future of two formerly city-owned ice arenas, a stream of high schoolers in white and green uniforms began pouring into the council chambers.
The members of the Madison Memorial hockey team were there to show their support for a plan to forgive the debt on the arenas, player and senior Owen Anderson said in an interview before the meeting.

Boom.
The city parks commission rejected pleas to cease fireworks shows at Warner Park, voting instead Wednesday night to reduce the number of displays to six for the upcoming season.

Before the September launch of Madison’s bus rapid transit system, Metro Transit officials said the red traffic paint covering bus-only lanes “should last 10 years” before needing repairs. But Myadze missed the Dec. 27 deadline to file for noncandidacy, and, as of 5 p.m Tuesday, had not submitted nomination papers, according to a city statement.

On a recent bright Friday morning, people were fishing by their ice shanties on frozen-over Monona Bay. Ice thickness on the bay’s west side on Jan. 3, according to users on the freshwater fishing forum Lake-Link, was around 4 to 5 inches, above the recommended 4-inch minimum for walking on ice.
But temperatures had been in the 40s just days before and some passersby were frustrated that people were still taking to the ice.
