YOUTH football is one of the biggest initiatives in Belfast and can be a gateway to bigger and better things for many of the players who take part every year. Two west Belfast clubs are all set to give their players a taste of those bigger and better things by entering the prestigious youth football tournament, The Holland Cup. Shankill Juniors FC, of the Ballygomartin Rd, and St Oliver Plunkett’s FC of Lenadoon Park, will send teams over to take part in the competition.

DETAILS of the first Ulster Senior Football Championship semi-final between Armagh and Tyrone have been released by the Ulster CCC. The two rivals earned their place in the final four after wins against Antrim and Cavan in their respective quarter-finals. St Tiernach’s Park in Clones will host the fixture, which hosted Armagh’s Ulster SFC semi-final last year against Down, which the Orchard county won.

CONNACHT is where this mad rat race started 10 days ago, with Roscommon travelling to London to get this Championship season underway. After a convincing win in Ruislip, Roscommon meet Galway, who also made light work of a team of Exiles in the shape of New York. The last time these two sides met in the Championship was at this stage in 2023 at Dr Hyde Park, with Galway coming out on top by four points on their way to the Connacht SFC title.
