Mike Jones’ Chesterfield future remains undecided. The popular midfielder, who turns 38 in August, has been at Chesterfield for three years, winning the National League title in 2024. But he made only five appearances last season, three of which came in starts in the EFL Trophy, while he only got 16 minutes in the league before having surgery on an achilles injury which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Chesterfield are in talks with a ‘number of players’, including some overseas, as they aim to shape their squad for next season. Just like the last campaign, the Spireites will be one of the favourites to get promoted from League Two, but there is a lot of work to do before the new season starts on August 2.

Chesterfield fans are set to get the chance to watch the Spireites in sunny Spain next month. The Blues’ season may have only ended a couple of weeks ago but the wheels are in motion with plotting the pre-season campaign ahead of the next League Two marathon, which gets underway slightly earlier this year, on August 2. Town have already got one fixture in the calendar, with the popular annual outing at neighbours Matlock Town taking place on Saturday, July 5.

Ollie Banks has completed his move to York City. The 32-year-old was in talks with Chesterfield over a new deal but he has opted to sign for the National League side on a longer contract, believed to be three years. The popular midfielder, who is one of only five players to win two league titles with the Spireites, departs after more than 200 appearances across six years in two different spells.
