We are thrilled to share that Andrew Deck and Raksha Kumar have won the South Asian Journalists Association’s Outstanding Arts, Culture and Lifestyles Reporting Award for their feature Vigilantes for views. Varsha Bansal won the award for Outstanding Business Reporting, which included her work for Rest of World and Wired. Deck and Kumar’s article focused on scambaiting, the phenomenon of content creators pranking alleged scam callers for a sense of vigilante justice — and YouTube views.

A little over a year ago, Rest of World began fundraising from readers and private institutions. We were thrilled by the response: in addition to winning our first grants from the Ford Foundation and the Henry Luce Foundation – as well as a sponsorship from Luminate – we received donations from several hundred readers from around the world in support of our work and mission.  Now, we’re taking the next step: launching our Rest of World membership program.
