Marshal says recent fires aren’t connected, but risks are common

Recent fires in Saskatchewan have resulted in the deaths of thousands of pigs, just days after new legislation was enacted to help prevent such disasters. In an interview with Evan Bray, Saskatchewan fire marshal Wayne Rodger explained that a combination of fuel and potential heat sources are necessary to create any fire, and both can be found in hog farming operations. Rodger said hog barns have a few elements that make the operations more flammable.

Saskatchewan’s minister of health doesn’t think the province is seeing a crisis in health care. Everett Hindley said he does, however, believe there are some problems to fix within the system, both across Canada and in Saskatchewan. “There are some challenges that we face in health care when it comes to recruitment and retention and training of health-care workers and just overall improvement to the health-care system,” Hindley told Evan Bray on Wednesday.

Saskatchewan didn’t manage to dodge winter weather entirely this season. Rose Carlsen, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said temperatures will likely stay a bit cooler over the next couple of days before taking a turn for the worse with the development of an Albert Clipper mid-week next week. “Unfortunately, behind that Alberta Clipper, we’re expecting a pretty significant Arctic air mass,” Carlsen said.

Chicago Blackhawks rookie, Connor Bedard, has been placed on the teamâ€™s injured reserve list. The 18-year-old hockey phenom, who is from Regina, is reported to have a fractured jaw. The team shared the news on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Tweets by NHLBlackhawksBedard played last season on the Regina Pats before he was drafted first overall into the NHL last June. He leads all rookies in the NHL with 33 points in 39 games.
