This year is flying by. It is already time for the pools to open and school to be out for summer. There is one weekend that is the traditional, although not official, start of summer, and that's Memorial Day. Costco's Quarterly Earnings Beat ExpectationsMemorial Day has become synonymous with the beginning of summer, with cookouts and swim parties. A lot of retail businesses and factories give their employees that day off to enjoy a 3-day weekend.

The population of Ft. Branch, Indiana is less than 3,000. I'm talking 2,931 residents. I grew up about 15 miles from Ft. Branch, and have never thought of it as a destination for dining. I am so excited to hear that R'z Cafe and Catering Company has been added to the list of America's Best Restaurants. Lance and Lauren Alston recently took ownership of the already successful restaurant. They also own the Brass Ring Bar and Grill in Haubstadt, Indiana.

After only 18 months in business, it's lights out for an Eastside fitness studio. I remember wanting to get all of the Tae Bo VHS tapes. That was the big fitness craze in the 90s. Kickboxing cardio taught by Billy Blanks. Having the ability to work out in your own space, and feel strong works for some people, and others need in-person motivation. Of course, many gyms offer different group fitness classes like boxing, but boutique fitness spots offer a specific workout with one theme.

It appears that while some restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives have continued to thrive, others have faced various challenges leading to their closure. The "Triple D effect" can bring a lot of attention, but long-term success depends on many factors. I love a good kitchen gadget. If I had more cabinets or counter space I would probably have one of everything. But, I actually don't have a pressure cooker. I'm terrified of having it explode.
