The year 1848 witnessed two events that, while occurring simultaneously and separated by an ocean, triggered the most unlikely narrative. These events, while somewhat tragic and sometimes colorful, give insight into some of human nature’s most basic impulses. Allow me to explain… In February of 1848 the French monarchial government of King Louis Philippe was toppled. Political turmoil followed— replete with anarchy and societal upheaval.

Brussels (Brussels Morning) – Belgian PM De Croo met Hungarian PM Orbán, handing over the EU Presidency. Belgium finalized significant agreements; Hungary now faces challenges amid its controversial stance. Outgoing Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo welcomed his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orbán in Brussels, following the transfer of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting lasted about half an hour. Neither of the leaders made comments afterwards.

May 9 is Europe Day in the EU. In Russia and several other countries, most often former soviet republics, they celebrate that same day Victory Day to remember the surrender of Germany at the end of the Second World War and the victory over Nazism.
