    There’s lots to love about New Orleans- Jazzfest and Mardi Gras, Music, Floats, and Big Fun. I’ve had a life long love affair with the city and I became a full time resident almost 5 yeas ago. The recent terror attack on New Year’s Day is heavy on everyone’s mind and many people have questions, thoughts and prayers. A news outlet asked me what the tone of the city was and I responded, “New Orleans locals are so tired.

    There a hundred of species of plant that are known by the name indigo and the history of them is intricately tied to the history of the Southern United States. The oldest known evidence of the dye plant dates back to a discovery in Peru which is over 6,000 years old. Here in the Southern U.S. we have our own native indigo that was used by indigenous people for dyeing and medicinal purposes before the imports came on the scene.

    New Orleans National Vodou Day is based on the Vodun Days in Benin, the event consists of a processional with offerings and prayers along the way, and culminating in a ritual at the historic Congo Square. This year we will also feature our first ever Vodou Symposium, with educational presenters from around the globe presenting their research and sharing their knowledge. The history of Voodoo in New Orleans is a spiritual gumbo.
