Taylor Bullock was home scrolling through the local missing pets Facebook pages on a recent Saturday when a post grabbed her attention. A black and white dog was keeping vigil on the porch of an empty house. The dog didn’t want to leave, as if her family could return any moment. But it had been days. “I kept refreshing for hours to see if someone claimed her or if someone was going to pick her up,” Bullock, who runs Happy Tails Animal Rescue, told The Dodo.

When a husky named Miss Honey and her puppy arrived as strays at the Kentucky Humane Society, it was clear to shelter staff how devoted they were to each other. Miss Honey had given every ounce of herself to her puppy, nursing her at the expense of her own health. Stepping on the scale, Miss Honey weighed only 33 pounds when she should have been double that.

On a quiet stretch of wooded road near Elin Pelin, Bulgaria, Stilyana Gerova’s car broke down. Gerova pulled over to change her tire, not knowing her vehicle trouble would soon save a little life. On the side of the road, Gerova spotted a frail puppy running around with something brown looped around his neck. The pup had been looking for food in the garbage and had gotten tangled in a KFC takeout bag. “I found him near the road where there is a train station in the forest,” Gerova told The Dodo.

When the Ann Arbor Police Department (AAPD) opened the dumpster lid at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, they knew they'd find more than just trash. But it was still disappointing to see a sweet dog looking up at them with trepidation in his eyes. The 10-year-old black and white pit bull mix should’ve been sleeping in a dog bed, not crouching in the dark of a sealed dumpster. The dog wasn’t wearing a collar, and a scan for a microchip came back negative.

But when a Good samaritan named Graham Adderley saw a full-grown eagle plummet to the ground like a stone in February, he was confused and immediately took out his phone. “Oh my God. Look at this. Look at this eagle!” Adderley said in a video.
