    Call it a complete experience for participants of the annual Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC) and Catholic Campus Ministry Summit (Summit) in downtown Richmond. The weekend was complete with pure joy in Jesus, prayer, and community with hundreds of peers. Attendance at both events was the highest since the pandemic. Approximately 930 teens gathered for DYC at the Greater Richmond Convention Center and adjacent Marriott Feb. 7-9. Summit was a gathering of about 520 college students Feb.

    Teens at the Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC) and college students at the Catholic Campus Ministry Summit (Summit) celebrated an amazing weekend together at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, as approximately 930 teens attended DYC Feb. 7-9 and about 520 students attended Summit Feb. 7-8.     Warm thoughts, warm wishes for veteransChurch of the Transfiguration, Fincastle, hosted a special Veterans Day program on Nov. 11. The Quilts of Valor Foundation presented 23 handmade quilts to parishioners who are veterans. Twenty-two men and one woman, representing all branches of the Armed Services, were honored. Father Xavier Banasula, pastor, bestowed a special blessing on all the veterans and their families, thanking them for their service and sacrifices.

    The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) announced a change for the faithful in celebrating the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dec. 8. Since the holy day of obligation falls on the Second Sunday of Advent this year, it was transferred to Monday, Dec. 9. The update is that the faithful will now have to attend Mass for the solemnity. The USCCB only recently announced this change after receiving clarification from the Vatican.

    Relief efforts are underway after parts of southwestern Virginia were hit hard by Helene. One of the organizations working to assist with recovery efforts is Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC). “Our hearts go out to every person who is suffering during this difficult time,” said CCC spokeswoman Katie Dillon. She explained that staff from around the state are pitching in to help. The Norton staff was on-site quickly and has now been joined by additional staff members from Richmond and Roanoke.
