    Ofgem are raising the energy price cap by 6.4% in April, affecting the bills of 22 million homes in England, Scotland, and Wales. According to the London Assembly, 471,000 households in London are currently living in fuel poverty. As it stands Londoners are paying a daily standing charge for electricity of 41.57 pence per day, but this will rise to 46.20p in April for direct debit, single-rate consumers – an increase of roughly 11%.

    The Metropolitan Police has announced the publication of a new Stop and Search Charter. It is the first time a set of formal commitments on how a stop and search is carried out has been agreed to and published in this way. The charter was produced following a year and a half of engagement with more than 8,500 Londoners of varying ages, ethnicities and backgrounds. The Met uses stop and search to seize weapons and drugs.

    According to new data by Turo, there are over 438 million pounds in unpaid ULEZ fines. Since the expansion of ULEZ to all boroughs in 2023, Transport for London has issued nearly two and a half million penalties to people driving non-compliant vehicles. Not paying your fine can result in the issue of a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), which is 90 pounds if you pay within 14 days, and 180 pounds thereafter. So how come people are not paying their charges?

    This Friday, Parliament will debate and vote on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. Pioneered by MP Kim Leadbeater, the bill will legalise assisted dying for terminally ill adults who are expected to have less than six months to live. A highly contentious issue within Parliament,  Labour’s Cabinet remains divided. But what do healthcare providers think? “Some of us will start killing our patients,” palliative care doctor Kajtek Skowronski says.
