The initial symptoms of STSS include fever and chills, muscle aches, nausea, and vomiting. The difference between this infection and others is that your health starts to deteriorate within hours, with patients experiencing severe lethargy, rapid breathing, aching muscles, and confusion. “You can feel crappy at 1pm and think, ‘I might be coming down with something,’” explains Farber. “By 3 or 4pm, you're getting significantly worse, and by 5 or 6pm, you can’t get out of bed.

According to the World Health Organization, a sedentary lifestyle doubles your risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity, and increases your risks of colon cancer, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and lipid disorders. As a result, research shows that people who sit for eight or more hours per day and engage in limited physical activity have a higher mortality rate than people who sit for shorter periods of time and get at least an hour of physical activity each day.

The old USPSTF guidelines, which were to screen every other year starting at age 50, reduced a person’s risk of dying of breast cancer by 25%. These new recommendations should increase that number to about 30%. “That’s better than the old guidelines, but obviously not as good as the ACR’s recommendation,” notes Vincoff. So, why wouldn’t USPSTF recommend the guidelines that can save the most lives?
