Leesburg, Va.—June 17—Twelve talented riders got a chance to ride with five-star rider Bec Braitling at the Morven Park International Equestrian Center today, the first day of the USEA’s Eventing Athletes Under 21 (EA21) East I clinic. The focus was on dressage, with exercises that helped every horse from Training level and above as they prepare for jumping lessons tomorrow.

The Event at Rebecca Farm is set to begin July 16-20 in Kalispell, Montana. Competitors from around the country are preparing to travel to the event, and thanks to the generosity of the Broussard Family Charitable Foundation Trust and administration of the USEA Foundation, that trip will be made more accessible through the Rebecca Farm Travel Grants. For 2025, applications were accepted through June 1, and recipients were notified on June 11 of their selection to receive those grant funds.

Even before he set foot in the ring for the 3’3” green hunter division at Upperville last week, most bystanders knew Ifwhizkycouldtalk was a Thoroughbred when his unusual name was announced over the loudspeaker—and that’s exactly what rider Sue Lyman and owner Catherine Brown hope for each time they enter the 6-year-old gelding in a class. While Thoroughbreds used to be ubiquitous in the hunter ring, especially in the open divisions, these days they are few and far between at top shows.

The first USEA Classic Series event of 2025 was held at the IEA Horse Trials in Edinburgh, Indiana, from May 30-June 1. We caught up with some of the winners to learn more about their weekends! Training Three-Day Lydia McKenzie & Gen Z (33.8) Riding Lauren McKenzie's Gen Z, an 8-year-old Thoroughbred mare (Tonalist x Steel Shed), Lydia McKenzie took home the win in the Training Three-Day division after moving up from fourth after dressage.
