In July 1995, Mike and Valerie Flanigan moved to Quincy from Stockton, along with their six-month-old son John, to work for what was then the Murray and Edwards insurance company. They’ve been working together at the firm ever since. Over the following three decades the couple had two more sons, bought and gradually expanded the insurance business, and became deeply ingrained in the local community. Now, they celebrate their retirement.

It’s official: the High Sierra Music Festival plans to return this summer. The July 3-6 2025 festival will be the 33rd annual event, and the 25th to be held in Quincy. The announcement comes as a welcome surprise to fans and long-time attendees. Last year was a uniquely challenging one for the organization. Between flagging ticket sales, rising costs and high temperatures, producers expressed concern about the festival’s future financial viability.

The holiday season kicked off in Quincy Friday evening with the annual Main Street Sparkle. The event began at 5 p.m., with downtown shops remaining open beyond their usual hours to welcome holiday shoppers. Residents came out in droves to explore and socialize over refreshments.

Nov. 16 was a busy evening at Sage & Salt in downtown Quincy. A crowd of friends and family gathered for the soft opening—a trial run for the nascent eatery’s official opening day this Saturday, Nov. 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.. Conversation flowed as more than 35 guests enjoyed jewel-tone cocktails, tall glasses of iced tea and hot drinks while awaiting their meals.
