In Greenland, the shadow of international diplomacy is looming larger than the eclipse as Denmark hit back at criticism by the US Vice President JD Vance. He accused the Danes of not “doing a good job” over Greenland – insisting the US should control it instead. The Danish foreign minister said that wasn’t how a country should speak to its close allies.

The US Vice President JD Vance has arrived in Greenland for his controversial visit telling Denmark “they had not done a good job”. At the same time Donald Trump restated his interest in gaining control of the vast island. JD Vance visited the US Military Pituffik Space Base after Danish and Greenlandic protests meant that plans for a US delegation to visit Sisimiut and Nuuk were abandoned.
