It is, says President Trump, a “very nasty situation”. Speaking at the White House, the President said his administration is working on accelerating food deliveries to Palestinians living in Gaza. The US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation said it had been able to open an additional distribution centre, after their first site was overrun yesterday. But in Gaza city more chaotic scenes unfolded today as desperate people stormed a UN warehouse that was holding flour.

Tomorrow will mark 600 days since Israel launched its military action on Gaza, following the Hamas assault on October 7th. While Israel’s prosecution of the war has grown ever more unpopular and controversial internationally, public opinion inside the country has moved more slowly.

As Israel steps up its action to take control of Gaza, it continues to defy Western condemnation of how it has left Palestinians starving by cutting off aid. About 100 trucks went in today according to Israeli officials –  a small fraction of what’s needed, and a small group of Israeli protesters against the war held aloft images of dead Palestinian children. There’s been no let-up in the attacks from Israel, with 75 airstrikes reported overnight.
